Technology Management to Build Capacity and Create Sustainability

This report examines characteristics of effective technology management in community clinics and health centers, and provides tools and a roadmap for increasing technology management and leadership capacity.


The Community Clinics Initiative is pleased to share the attached report with you, Technology Management to Build Capacity and Create Sustainability by Tom Dawson and SA Kushinka (formerly of CompuMentor's Healthcare Technology practice now with Full Circle Projects, Inc.). The report, drawn from their deep experience of working with community clinics and health centers as they design and implement technology solutions, identifies characteristics of community health centers that are most effectively using technology in a community clinic setting. The examples they cite underscore lessons from CCI's own evaluation results, namely that effective use of technology is closely linked to overall organizational capacity and effectiveness and that the key role of high level leadership, including the executive director, medical director, CFO, and key technology staff are essential in using technology to its highest potential in helping clinics fulfill their broader social mission of serving their communities.
